Trepanation is the oldest surgical procedure practiced by mankind. Evidence of Trepanation dates back over 10,000 years. Trepanation was practiced on every continent, in every time period and by every race of mankind. Trepanation was practiced in Greek and Roman Times. Hippocrates wrote specific instructions on performing Trepanation that were followed for centuries. As surgical instruments evolved, Trepanation became more widely practiced.
During the Renaissance, more people were Trepanned more than any other period in time. The procedure was popular even though there was no way to explain its benefits. As medical science developed in the 20th century, trepanation fell into disfavor. In 1950, Russian brain physiologists began the scientific investigation into Trepanation using laboratory animals. At the National Institute of Health, Sokoloff demonstrated the decrease in brain metabolism as people age.
He also discovered the correlation of declining brain blood volume as we age. These findings led to Bart Huges' thesis called "The Mechanism of BRAINBLOODVOLUME", published in 1962. During that time, doctors were unwilling to perform elective Trepanations. In the late 1960s, a few individuals performed self-trepanation. All people who wanted trepanation were turned away by the medical community.due to the lack of research data regarding benefits in human subjects.
In 1998, ITAG was formed by individuals who had been trepanned.and wanted to make Trepanation available to everyone.everywhere.in a first-class outpatient medical facility.ITAG's mission is to assemble a worldwide information source about Trepanation.and to push the scientific investigation forward into revealing the benefits of the Trepanation.and the benefits of accelerated brain metabolism that may result from it. In the first year of the New Millenium, ITAG accomplished its first major goal. Four volunteers were electively trepanned in an outpatient facility by qualified surgeons. The pilot study had then begun.
MRI images were taken before and after the surgery, as part of the scientific investigation. Elective Trepanation had once again become available. In successive groups, more volunteers chose to become part of the pilot study. Three volunteered in early 2001.Six volunteered in mid 2002.And three more volunteered in late 2002. All volunteers supported the study by paying for their own surgeries, MRIs and travel expenses.
These volunteers are dedicated, courageous, and have set THE path into the New Millennium. Their historical impact has yet to be realized and appreciated. The database of successful surgeries has reached meaningful and measurable proportions. No where before has such scientific documentation and data been compiled on results of trepanation. ITAG medical associates are now ready to expand this study into a 10-year formal protocol.
There is a tremendous amount of work to be done before Trepanation is made available worldwide. ITAG is calling on the world's resources to support the continued investigation. Through the participation of bio-statisticians radiological specialists neuro-physiologists psychologists mental health professionals through research and funding inventors and geniuses everywhere and through additional volunteers for the study.
Why live a lifetime of diminished expectations because of reduced brain blood volume? Could Trepanation help mankind see beyond his historical limitations? Can this procedure direct one to their unique self-fulfillment? Are you ready to participate in your own willful evolution and well being? The choice is now YOURS to make. The investigation WILL continue.
